Sometimes he's there, just sitting on the corner, but often he's not, and recently I realized I hadn't seen him in awhile. Yesterday, slipping along that less-traveled parallel, deep into my own thoughts, I rolled up to the stop sign, glanced over to the right, and there he was.

The smile he offered was genuine, but not nearly as brilliant as the grin I earned, by smiling back at him. Just for that moment, we were two kids on a warm spring day, grinning in the sunshine.
