Despite Mike's recent post about the random timing of our fair city's street cleaning schedule, I forgot and left my truck out front this morning. When the police unit pulled up behind the truck, I suddenly remembered, and dashed out the front door hoping to be allowed to move it before the ticket was written. The officer was just about to get out of the car, as I ran up apologizing, but then her expression changed abruptly and she froze.
Fletcher Lou had taken my sudden reaction as a sign of a serious issue, pushed out the door after me, and was standing right beside me, staring at the officer intently while growling. She remained in the car as I snagged him by the collar and said "come on, we're going for a ride" as calmly as I could, hustled him into the truck and pulled it around the corner. Guess she hadn't written that ticket yet, since she just pulled off down the street without further comment.
Whew!
I was too shocked at first, but got the shakes badly after we made it back inside the house, thinking about all the things that MIGHT have just happened.
REALLY glad I keep a collar on him at all times.
Even _more_ glad the officer wasn't standing next to my truck when I bolted out there with Fletcher on full alert.
Fletcher's just glad that he got a big chicken finger because he sat politely while my heart went back down to a normal rate.
